Pension Automatic Re-enrolment – 1 October 2022

As a result of changes to UK pension law, employers must re-enrol eligible employees into a workplace pension scheme every three years. Automatic re-enrolment applies to all employees who are not currently in a workplace pension scheme and who:

· Earn over £10,000 a year (£833 a month or £192 per week)

· Are aged between 22 and State Pension age

The Pension Automatic Re-enrolment date for employees is NES is 1 October 2022.

What does this mean for you?

If you meet the eligibility criteria you will be automatically enrolled in the NHS Scotland Pension Scheme (the Scheme) with effect from 1st October 2022. If you are unable to join the NHS Scotland Pension Scheme you will be automatically enrolled into NEST. A letter and a factsheet will be sent to you by e-mail where possible or to your home address which explains auto enrolment in more detail and provides information on what to do next.

If you have already opted out of the Scheme in the last 12 months, you will be exempt from enrolment until the next automatic re-enrolment date in 2025. For more information about the Scheme please refer to the SPPA website Scottish Public Pensions Agency home page | SPPA
