How do I report sickness absence?

You must report your sickness absence to the placement Board/ General Practice contact as confirmed to you at Induction. The placement Board/ practice will notify NES of your sickness absence. As an employee of NES you will follow the NES policy. NES will also notify the deanery of periods of sickness absence so that any impact on your training programme can be considered.

When you are in General Practice Standard forms are available for completion in order to report the absence and Return to Work form.  You should inform the Practice Manager of your absence and they will report this to NES.

When in hospital, if you are sick and unable to attend work it is important that you personally make contact immediately (unless exceptional circumstances arise where you are unable to) on the first day of absence with the individual identified at induction, usually the Rota Manager at hospital placement & Clinical Supervisor. This will then be reported to NES.

Where cumulative sick leave exceeds two weeks’ full time equivalent training in any one training year, you will be required to make up the sickness absence in order to meet the requirements for your training programme. Deanery and you will be informed of the number of additional days you will have to work.

Your placement board will liaise with occupational health provider as appropriate and as detailed in NES policies to inform sickness management processes.
