Rotations
Official confirmation (agreed between the Deanery and your TPD) will usually be emailed to you by your placement board 8 weeks before you are due to start your placement through an 'Amendment to Contract' issued via email. The Amendment to Contract letter will note your banding supplement for your new placement, on-call arrangements and key contacts.
Any communication you receive from other parties, will only be provisional and should not be taken as official information.
If you have any queries regarding your placement, please contact medical staffing in your placement board.
You will need to contact the Medical Workforce Department within the placement Board to obtain a copy of your rota - contact details can be found here.
In the first instance, you must speak to the Medical Staffing Department at your placement Board; they have determined the banding supplement you are to be paid.
Contractually, you may be required to work at any of the training locations listed in the Programme details for your Specialty. Changes to allocations/rotation will only be made in exceptional circumstances and these must not be made less than one month prior to the placement.
Once a trainee has accepted their rotation at the start of the training programme, no changes will be able to be made other than for exceptional change to personal circumstances.
Changes must not be made part way through a rotation.
There are 2 exceptions to this:
- Where trainees have a specific educational need related to the achievement of competences.
- Where trainees have special personal circumstances related to significant family responsibilities or personal health issues.
Geographical preference is NOT regarded as a reason for change of placement.
You should discuss any such issues with your TPD in the first instance.
You are employed by NES for the duration of your training programme and will be issued with your contracts of employment within 8 weeks of commencing your employment. During this employment you will rotate through placements in General Practice and Hospital. NES is advised, via Turas, of your rotations. If you have any questions pertaining to your training programme, you should contact the Deanery (e.g. the Training Programme Director or Training Management Team) in the first instance.
The detail of your next rotation, including placement Board, Hospital base, medical staffing contacts details, placement banding, rota lead and induction details will be confirmed in the 'Amendment to Contract Letter'. You should normally be issued with your Amendment to Contract letter 6 weeks in advance of rotation.
If you have any queries regarding the content of the letter there will be a medical staffing contact noted on the letter who you can get in touch with in the first instance.
You should also receive a letter from your placement Board confirming local arrangements (e.g. parking, mess etc). If you have any queries pertaining to local arrangements at your placement Board, you should contact their Medical Staffing team.
