What is the notice period?

As a specialty trainee you are required to give three calendar months’ notice in writing to your placement board, copied to your NES. The waiving of this obligation will only be considered in very exceptional circumstances and can only be agreed by your employer, NES. You should meet with your Clinical Supervisor/ Educational Supervisor and Training Programme Director to advise of your intentions and mutually agree on a suitable termination date.

Though it is important that the placement Board/ General Practice and the Training Programme Director are made aware for the purposes of arranging replacement cover, you are reminded that NES is your employer with whom your contractual arrangement exists. As such, when tendering your resignation this must be in writing. Acknowledging that there are other stakeholders, however, you are also asked to copy in the Training Programme Director for your Specialty and the Postgraduate Dean.
