ANNUAL LEAVE/PUBLIC HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT FOR DOCTORS AND DENTISTS IN TRAINING  

Annual leave entitlement is pro rata to each placement and should be taken within that placement. If you are less than full time, your annual leave is pro rata to the hours worked.  

You should contact your placement Board for advice regarding arrangements for the approval of leave. Please make early contact with your Rota Coordinator to discuss any  

preferred leave dates. As per the NHS Circular PCS(DD) 2021/01 there has been a change to your terms and conditions in relation to your annual leave and public holiday arrangements and is as follows:

In addition to the above annual leave you will also be entitled to 8 public holidays pro rata per annum, public holidays are subject to placement Board arrangements.
 

LESS THAN FULL-TIME TRAINEES 

Annual leave/public holiday entitlement for less than full-time trainees is calculated on a pro-rata basis. For example, a LTFT trainee working 60% of full-time core hours will receive a 60% entitlement of the annual leave and public holidays specified above. 

Eg. A trainee working 24 core hours per week, placed on point 01 of the salary scale,  

will calculate their leave as follows24 hrs (part-time core hours) divided by 40 hrs (standard full-time week) x  

224 hrs (28 days x 8 hrs) = 134.4 hours annual leave pa. 

24 divided by 40 x 80 (8 PH’s x standard 8-hour day) = 38.4 hours public holiday entitlement pa. 

Therefore, combined annual leave/public holiday allowance = 172.8 hours per annum (21.6 days).
